Since 2007, the Noosa Shire has held UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status! Noosa Biosphere Reserve is part of a global network of over 700 sites in over 130 countries, connected under the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves. The Biosphere Reserve status recognises the ongoing efforts of the community to manage our region’s land, waters and wildlife sustainably, in balance with our population and visitors from across the globe. Noosa Shire is a living example of how people can live in harmony with nature while maintaining sustainable development, thriving local businesses, world-class education facilities, and healthy, vibrant communities.
