We aim to create a publicly accessible network of refill stations that are promoted as
places where people are able to refill their water bottles.
Public water stations will be included in the
program by gathering relevant data sets from Councils and Utilities to map stations. Businesses
are also encouraged to become refill stations, vastly increasing the number of refill points in a
community. Being a refill station has been shown to be beneficial for businesses by increasing
sales and foot traffic. These businesses will also be identified through shop front signage and an
interactive maps which the public can use.
Local businesses can offer BYO refills in a variety of ways, including:
The recent study by Refill HQ showed that more than 70% of people when out for the day feel uncomfortable asking for free water. The survey also found that nearly 3 in 5 people say they would more likely use a refillable bottle if they knew refills were more freely available. This system addresses that issue by clearly identifying where you can refill. The proposed system of refill points is modelled off of the highly successful ‘Refill’ program in the UK (www.refill.org.uk). This program was launched in September 2015 and there are now over 10,000 Refill points around the UK .
Plastic Free Noosa has already identified key partners able to provide the ability to display and promote the Refill Network.
